  1. Water is one of the worst of the four elements over which we can not control. Events from across Europe are fearful of so many thousands of people lost their homes and property. Sam I live very close to the Wisla and lived in fear of flooding.

  2. The more I listen to news, the less I know about a cause and range of this disaster. At first I was to blame politicians for that, but then I realised that it's not that simple. Of course, some kind of master plan was needed for making dikes, reservoirs etc, but it seems that there are plenty of problems with achieving that. NIK has published a report with description of the causes and it seems that there are people to blame on every level.

  3. I don't agree that water is worse element than any other. All of them can be extremely harmful. I am afraid that none of us has enough knowledge to know who should we blame.
All I know is that most of internet comments like "they should get an insurance" are without sense. It is usually not possible to do it living in an area with high possibility of being flooded. Living outside this area is also hard as some of our cities are built around rivers and lakes.

  4. Well, to me water isn't the worst element. Just imagine a huuuge (just like this flood) blaze. It would be harder to run away from it and to rescue animals or houses or anything. Of course it's a tragedy what happend. I also don’t think we should blame anyone, of course flood banks should have been stronger and some people were waiting hours to be rescued, but at last...organization of the action was kind of good. But the most important, some of people, who were in danger totally didn’t know how to behave. Some of them were living just nearby the river and wouldn't have even been thinking of going away. That's stupid, but ok, it's their choice, of course if not the fact, that because of such people, another ones (who were really surprised that water could have come to their homes) had to wait sooo long to be taken out. Anyway, I understand them because many of people loses lock, stock, and barrel in one second..

  5. The most irritating thing in recent events is that we had the same placeless were under water which have been flooded in 1997 and 2001. Mostly in those places (like Kozanow in Wroclaw) nothing have been done to prevent having again such situation. Other thing is building on terrains near rivers. If you want to have nice view on water you should at least have some insurance.

  6. J.M. s4071:
And don't forget the golden rule: don't build in flood area.

I wonder, maybe flood-proof house is a good idea.

  7. First thought that comes to my mind is "why those people didn't learned from their own mistakes - '97 flood. Because from it's nature - elemental is unpredictable they couldn't just live with hope it won't happen again. At least citizens of endangered regions should buy proper insureance.

From legal point of view building in flood area should be forbidden and neccesary anti-flood infrastructure should be built in strategical localizations.

  9. It is really scary. We experience contact with water as something pleasant and calm. Using it in everyday life we are not aware of the fact that it can be so dangerous. It destroys everything on its way. Hepefully people will recover after flood and will be out of the woods.

  10. For me floods are an example how stupid people are, in most cases the same areas are flooded and people still build new houses there...
